Open Borders

Greetings friends and supporters of independent music. It is with great pleasure that we announce the release of Music is Elation’s first compilation project for 2020, appropriately named ‘Open Borders’.

Music is Elation (MIE, originally created by PACMAN and Couch King back in 2016) has not only been a generous supporter and promoter of musicians on Soundcloud; it has also supported many charities over the years, through these wonderful multi-artist projects. What can I say... these are good folks, trying to do good things. And what better way to support worthwhile causes than knowing you’re snagging a rocking album, with 100% of the proceeds going back into the community.

So, what’s the exceptionally worthwhile cause being supported by this album? I’m glad you asked. This time around, we’ll be donating all proceeds to the International Rescue Committee, a group committed to helping aid asylum seekers (help.rescue.org). And in our minds, it goes a little something like this...

The most meaningful experiences in life are not achieved by creating boundaries between ourselves and others... by creating walls between us and the people and things we don’t understand. Life is about opening up, and being pleasantly surprised by what sneaks its way into our heart during those moments of vulnerability. If you’d like to test this at home, plant yourself firmly in your living room for oh, say... one year; no internet, no phone, no contact from the outside world. Then witness how quickly you become stagnant inside. Truth is, we need other people; and they need us. It’s one of those beautiful secrets of life; it’s meant to be shared. And this can not be fully achieved... if the walls stay up.

Our greatest wish for 2020 is a world of genuine equality; where there is no greater truth than 1 life = 1 life (despite your sex, race, religious and political views, or any other inaccurate way of trying to create fractions from the whole). We have more than enough fear in the world right now to burn the whole experiment to the ground... if that’s the path we choose. But we ultimately share in that human fate, no matter how safe we might feel behind these walls.

Our future depends on inclusion over exclusion; on love over fear. It depends on a profound openness to new experiences and opportunities that allow us to see things in fresh, new ways. Let’s get rid of the walls, and open our hearts. Let's eliminate the false notion that there isn’t enough for all of us, and embrace the idea that, working together, the whole planet thrives and expands together. In short, let’s open those borders.

We hope you enjoy this wonderful compilation album, and we hope you’ll support our efforts to make the world a better place.
